Mastering Music Notation

Gain a solid foundation in reading and interpreting musical notes. Reading and fluency in music is a skill that can constantly be improved. As students progress in their knowledge of music theory, they are provided repertoire that progressively increases in reading difficulty.

Understanding Song Forms

Learn how different song structures create memorable melodies. Through classical and orchestral repertoire, teachers help students gain an awareness of standard popular song forms and structures within classical music. Additionally, students are encouraged to compose their own music as a way of solidifying their understanding of song forms.

Expressive Performance Techniques

Develop skills to bring emotion and dynamics to your playing.
Students are presented with repertoire that improves their ability to perform music with accents and vibrato at various tempos and dynamic levels.

Exploring Chords and Harmony with Repertoire

Build your chord vocabulary to enrich your musical expression.

With knowledge of chords, students can start to compose their own musical
compositions using chords as a way of interpreting music.

What taking lessons with Solomon Alber will cover

Solomon Alber – “My lessons are structured in a way where there are distinct warm-ups that I teach to all my students. These warm-ups are meant to help you strengthen and build your sound foundation after each practice session. Then, I will typically move onto some exercises and technique books that I work through with all my students. The reason that I go through these exercises with you is that they not only train our muscle memory, but they also give us a wealth of ideas we can later play around with during improvisation. The rest of the time is dedicated to practicing the approaches of Speaking Music as a means of learning new songs and repertoire and for the students who show interest in Jazz, I guide students in several unique approaches to listening in a band and improvising fluidly.

In private lessons, I introduce you to my whole method for improvising and composing music. I also walk you through exactly how I use each approach using specific tunes that are most common and well known in the jazz community as examples.

I hope that this gives you a better idea about what I like to touch upon in my lessons and if this seems like a lot to read, I typically dedicate a portion of the first lesson to running through the structure of lessons with all new students. After listening to a student, I can better place where our starting point should be to best hit the ground running.” Visit our Booking Page to sign up for your lessons.
